58 days to go by my count, for US troops in Afghanistan. Now, articles are coming out describing a longer presence, perhaps until 2016. With the US in deep debt, and the US House and Senate both being run now by Republicans, it remains to be seen if the US Congress will fund two more years in Afghanistan, as the US needs this money to pay for care for US veterans, and to buy new US war equipment as the US military is worn down after being at war since 9/11/01.

See the link at #1: former Kansas Republican Senator Bob Dole, a wounded WWII Army veteran, criticizes the Tea Party and wants to keep the current head of the VA in his position. All the while, as the headline reads, he calls the VA a “disaster”. What’s going on here? If it is a “disaster” why not call in new leadership?

Afghanistan Today, the GWOT Hotspot (The Afghanistan Scandal?) 5-19-14-Mon. (226 days to go)
226 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan, but on the home front, veterans of Afghanistan and other wars face long wait times, and even death at VA hospitals they depend on for care.
An idea I had: Retired generals and admirals should VOLUNTEER and go into VA’s to help straighten them up and help our veterans. I would say they could drop their contractor jobs and live on their retirement and VOLUNTEER with the VA to straighten out the problems, and even hold accountable those involved in criminal actions is making bogus lists and letting US vets die. I would put a call out for these generals and admirals among others to VOLUNTEER to lead the VA into a new era: Gen. Petraeus, Adm. Mullen, Gen. Mattis, Gen. Cartwright, Gen. Sinclair, and many others.

Another weekend at war for US troops who have 235 days left in Afghanistan. Retrograde operations continue, closing US bases and packing equipment in this still dangerous country, so keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Meanwhile, on the homefromt, the VA health system faces charges of falsifying records, wait times to see doctors, and allowing veterans to die waiting. This needs a complete investigation. See the link at #1 for more details.

Mid week in a combat zone, despite the massive retrograde operations going on, it is still a combat zone and the US troops still get combat pay. God bless American troops as they pack up and prepare to leave Afghanistan by 31 Dec. 2014.
