The last day of the year and US troops are still in Afghanistan. God bless them. May 2012 see victory secured so they can come home. Links from around the GWOT:

The end of the year is coming, and changes in tactics for the Marines. Read the story at #1 for details which make is seem as if COIN is working smoothly. Link:

1.) Counterinsurgecy (COIN, nation building) tactics seem to be working according to this report. To the men and women still being killed and injured, I don’t know how COIN seems to be working to them. Link:

Another holiday season past us, another new year dawning. For U.S. troops in Afghanistan, it’s another day, another year at war. God bless American troops and may they secure victory soon and return home. Links from around the GWOT:

1.) Marine General Mattis, head of Central Command offers guidelines on operations on Pakistan border. Again, the story refers to Pakistan’s lawless border area. If the area is “lawless” then it is not under the control of Pakistan. Why is it “lawless”? Link:

2.) No welcome home parade planned for US troops this story says. I again wrote my elected officials and Pres. Obama and asked for not only a parade for Iraq war vets who served honorably, but also an IRAQ VICTORY MEDAL with motto: VICTORY THROUGH STRENGTH:

A new year is bearing down on us, 2012 is right around the corner, and our troops remain in Afghanistan. I thank them for their service in 2011, and wish for a peaceful and victorious 2012 so they can come home. Links from around the GWOT:

1.) US Marine misses Maine home, serving in Afghanistan at Christmas:

2.) Two of our fallen soldiers from 2011’s totals. RIP and God bless those still serving. May they come home in victory soon. Link:

Another week at war for U.S. troops in Afghanistan, pray for them this day after Christmas as they head into the new year of 2012 soon. Links from around the GWOT:

1.) Scroll down in this story about talks with the Taliban and see that another Afghan soldier shot coalition troops:

U.S. troops celebrate Christmas in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan again this year, as the drawdown there has already begun. Within two years they are supposed to be gone in 2014, just like U.S. troops are out of Iraq. God bless American troops in Afghanistan as they celebrate the Christian tradition of Christmas in a foreign land. Links from around the GWOT  and Merry Christmas! Links:

1.) Meanwhile, cyber security remains in the news with Stratfor, a US security think tank being hacked:

2.) After 10+ years things seem the same, another suicide bomber at a funeral in Afghanistan, killing 19:

3.) The Pope calls for peace, Muslim extremists answer with bombings at Catholic church in Nigeria. God bless Christians under attack this Holy Day and every day around the world. Link:

4.) British troops mark Christmas in Helmand, Afghanistan:

5.) Marine point man on patrols survives, returns home for Christmas:
