It is another Good Friday for American troops in Afghanistan. May they be blessed with leadership as they close up bases there, which realizes American troops are paramount and treats them as such. As American leaves this war zone by 31 December 2014, I am hoping they can get new leadership with a culture of victory they can instill in the troops they lead. I hope they can pack up before 31 December 2014, and come home and bring our money with them before that date. Links from around the GWOT:
1.) Writer Diana West gives her opinion in her weekly column as to what retired Gen. David Petraeus can do now that he is coming after out after his extra marital affair led to his resignation from the CIA. She suggests working at no salary to get the US military members now serving time, for actions during the fog of war, out of prison and home to their families. I believe this would be a good thing for the retired general to do. Link:
As the war rages on in Afghanistan, and American troops pack up equipment and close bases in anticipation of leaving the country for good on 31 December 2014, back in the USA, budget battles reign. On yesterday’s front page of the Wall Street Journal there was a story about putting MARSOC Marines (Special Operators) on ships instead of disbanding MARSOC because it is a duplication of the Navy Seals and Army Special Forces. The Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Amos came up with a way to save MARSOC, and that is to put them on ships at sea to be ready as a quick reaction force (QRF) in instances of attacks such as on Benghazi, Libya, using Osprey helicopters to insert them.

Another day at war for US troops in Afghanistan. Another day of US tax dollars being wasted on nation building projects in that country. While our troops still risk their lives, former Army General and CIA Director David Petraeus steps out of the shadows and says he is sorry for his affair. As I read the story I only can think that he should be sorry for his COIN (counterinsurgency) theory and nation building which resulted in so many American deaths and injuries in Iraq and then Afghanistan. He should live on his retirement alone, and be lucky he has it and is not at Ft. Leavenworth Brig. He should dedicate his life to helping the Iraq and Afghanistan troops injured due to his COIN policies and volunteer for no pay at Wounded Warrior Barracks, VA hospitals, and in homes where amputees and brain-damaged vets live with their families. He could spend any spare time repudiating his failed nation building theories. Links from around the GWOT:
