36 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan. See the story at link #1, the headline pretty much tells it all: so long, good luck. Links from around the GWOT:

68 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan. As the time winds down, more bases are closed. See link one for details of British Camp Bastion being closed and turned over to the Afghans, and US Marines turning Camp Leatherneck over to the Afghans.

There is supposed to be 87 days left for US troops in Afghanistan, only Pres. Obama on Sept. 30, 2014 signed us up for 10 more years and beyond. Will Congress fund it? Meanwhile, the British are leaving and closing Camp Bastion. Links from around the GWOT:

13th anniversary of the 9/11/01 attacks. God bless our troops and military.

Now while the US leaves Afghanistan in 112 days, more wars are brewing, as evidenced by a war speech by the Commander-in-Chief On
Ba a last night. Now it looks like the US is leaving Afghanistan, but going back to Iraq, and into Syria.

327 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan. May they stay safe as they complete retrograde operations packing up US equipment and closing US bases.

Yesterday a video came out, or was picked up by the major news channels, put out by the Taliban, showing a captured military working dog they call “Colonel.” There is an update at link #1, apparently the ISAF and NATO member it belongs to is the British.

360 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan. God bless American troops still in Afghanistan as they complete retrograde operations, closing US bases and packing up and/or destroying equipment. Some equipment is too costly to ship back I have read in reports, so it is destroyed in Afghanistan and sold for scrap. It is still a danger zone, recently retaining its place on the list of countries where US troops earn imminent danger pay, which was reported to be $7.50 a day. Links from around the GWOT:

1.)  While US troops are in retrograde operations in Afghanistan, one of the reasons for the $7.50 a day imminent danger is revealed here: Afghans set to release 88 dangerous prisoners despite US concern for the safety of our troops. Link:

2.) The Washington Post reports (asks): “How hard is it to win hearts and minds in Afghanistan? Very hard.” With our Command College, and military academies for the Navy, Army, and Air Force, why was the COIN doctrine (nation building) even considered for Afghanistan when there was plenty of history to study on previous ventures in Afghanistan: British 3 wars in the 1800’s-early 1900’s involvement, Soviet Union involvement, “The Great Game” between the British and Russians, etc.?

3.) US taxpayers spend $50 billion on armored vehicles (MRAPS), most now going into storage or being scrapped:
