Afghanistan Today, the GWOT Hotspot (The Afghanistan Scandal?) 2-20-13-Wed.
While parts of the USA await a blizzard, US troops still face danger and cold in Afghanistan. Pray for victory for American troops and that US leaders, both military and civilian, will focus on VICTORY THROUGH STRENGTH. The US no longer has the funds to carry out a long occupation and nation building. Win and bring the troops home long before the 31 December 2014 deadline for victory. Links from around the GWOT:

Let’s get civilian and military officials in there who have integrity and who are not going to retire and work for a defense contractor. In these times of budget cuts and tight budgets, and the end of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan is it time to disband MARSOC like the Marine Raiders were disbanded at the end of WWII? It seems to me with the huge budget of the Army compared to the Marines and the Navy budget, the Navy SEALS and Army Rangers and Army Green Berets can handle the Special Operations work now that the wars are over. This would save money and much duplication, and with the Marine Corps shrinking, allow these MARSOC Marines to get back into the fleet and doing what Marines do: TRAIN TO WIN WARS, and when called to war: WIN THE WARS. Tomorrow is V-J Day, August 15, 1945. The day we celebrate V-A Day can’t come soon enough! Victory in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the Afghan survivor of the attack in which 10 Christian aid workers were killed tells his story.

Also, I am still reflecting upon the movie I saw yesterday, and highly recommend, RESTREPO. Go see it! I will list the trailer again below. Captain Kearney and his Army Rangers give interviews after they returned to Italy, and there is extensive footage of the Afghan villagers we are trying to win the hearts and minds of, as well as combat footage. All Americans should see this movie for insight into what is going on in the war.

Another Friday at war, with a second troops surge going to Afghanistan soon, led by the Marines. If they won’t let the soldiers and Marines there fight and have air strikes and use artillery, what good will sending more troops who can’t shoot do?
Restricted rules of engagement must be dropped before sending this second troop surge. We should have learned that from the first troop surge of 21,000–with restricted ROE and lack of air strikes not enough enemy fighters were killed and now we need 30,000 more to make the total of surge troops for first and second surge 51,000. 21,000 from March 27, 2009 strategy and 30,000 from Dec 1, 2009 strategy.
Before coming up with the second surge strategy which was announced on Tuesday, did anyone study and see what role the restricted rules of engagement for the first surge had on killing the enemy? If not enough enemy fighters were killed, then perhaps before second surge of 30,000 troops, restricted ROE must be dropped.
With this second surge, they should start-up the Marine Raiders again and get them going, as they will ‘complete the job’ or whatever the President wants done. Since we have an end date, send in the Raiders! I know we have MarSOC Marines, but they are were thrown out of a war for doing their job, in error, and were exonerated, but those who threw them out have yet to face their punishment for their wrong decisions to show weakness to the enemy in throwing out the Marines. Therefore, the Real Marine Raiders need to be started again by President Obama if he wants to get this war won in 18 months.

2.) U.S. troops again involved in supporting one religion over another, building mosques and repairing them in Afghanistan. I believe this violates the spirit of “separation of church and state”? Why are U.S. taxpayers paying for building or repairing a religious structure in any country? I have asked my representatives this and received no answer yet as this is not the first time I have read about American troops repairing or constructing mosques with U.S. tax dollars. Are U.S. troops building synagogues and churches in Afghanistan too? Furthermore, I have noted that many official U.S. military publications and online such as the official Marine Corps web page dateline their news stories “The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.” I wrote my senators and representative and asked them for clarification on this, but am still waiting for a response. I just questioned how U.S. tax dollars in the billions can go into promoting one religion over another? What business do non-Muslim U.S. troops have in an “Islamic Republic” because by being non-Islamic they do not have the same equal rights of Muslims. How can U.S. democracy be promoted in an “Islamic Republic”? Furthermore, just what does it mean, “Islamic Republic of Afghanistan?”
I also want to know why the U.S. military is giving out their attack plans? In addition, why aren’t they using MORE BOMBS, LESS TROOPS if the roads to Marja are laced with landmines, and the terrorists are there inside the city? Just bomb it and save the legs and lives of U.S. troops. This is a no-brainer it seems.

Yesterday, President Obama gave his strategy speech for Afghanistan and announced 30,000 troops will be sent. He did mention the new strategy does not include an open-ended nation building experiment.
God bless and protect our troops going for this second surge. 21,000 troops were sent in the first surge and for the strategy announcement by Obama 3-27-09.

Afghanistan Today, the GWOT Hotspot-Tue. 12-1-09
Another month at war has come to an end. The month ends, but the war goes on. It’s now December and so many American troops face another Christmas at war. Let’s let or troops WIN the war so they can all be home for Christmas next year.
A presidential speech by Obama tomorrow should explain the change in Afghanistan strategy since the last speech and first troop surge March 27,2009.
Here are my suggestions for victory in Afghanistan, total victory with unconditional enemy surrender:
a.) Start up the Marine Raiders again. We have battle hardened majors and captains who can lead them just like in WWII, and let them do the things they did in WWII to WIN THE WAR! If Pres Obama announces this tomorrow, that will be progress: Start up the Marine Raiders again.
b.) More bombs, less troops. Any general who tells Pres. Obama we cannot “kill our way to victory” should hear Obama’s answer: “Sure we can,” and he can remind them of WWII.
With the activation by Pres. Obama of the Marine Raiders again, and the policy of MORE BOMBS, LESS TROOPS, Obama should have complete and total surrender of the enemy and victory in hand in Afghanistan so we can bring our troops home. He will be one of the most popular presidents ever if he follows this advice and WINS THE WAR. Then he needs to issue IRAQ VICTORY MEDALS for all Operation Iraqi Freedom vets, along with AFGHANISTAN VICTORY MEDALS for Operations Enduring Freedom vets who saw time in Afghanistan. God bless our troops! On to complete victory and total surrender of the enemy!
1.) Road to Torkham. The road many travel on Afghanistan-Pakistan border. President needs to have the Marine Raiders take care of the problems of terrorists on this road. I am sure they would have the road cleared in short order. He can also send the newly re-activated Marine Raiders to solve the Somali pirate problem. With the Marine Raiders to take care of the pirates, there won’t be a Somali pirate problem for long.

Americans could go to church today and celebrate the first week of Advent, thanks to our troops and their sacrifice to keep us free. Please pray for our troops so they can have leaders who lead them in victory, and not to die for defeat.
One thing President Obama can do in his speech Tuesday where he is supposed to announce his second surge to Afghanistan of 34,000, along with his first surge of 21,000 for a total surge of 55,000 troops, in addition to American troops already there, and the NATO and troops from other countries, is to announce he is REACTIVATING THE MARINE RAIDERS. This is something that needs to be done! They should have the LARGE RAIDER flag on their vehicles and when the terrorists see that coming they run to dismantle any IED’s!! The Marine Raiders could also be used to END the pirate problem. Put the Marine Raiders on the job. If he does not announce the reactivation of the Marine Raiders to win the war, then I have decided the surge is just to nation-build and not to kill the enemy to win the war.
