Afghanistan Today, the GWOT Hotspot (The Afghanistan Scandal?) 6/27/14-Fri. (187 days to go)

Another summer weekend for Americans, as the Fourth of July bears down on us, where America’s independence is celebrated. But, for US troops in Afghanistan, it’s 187 days left in that country until 31 December, 2014, when all US troops leave. There is talk of President Obama extending it two more years until 2016, but I hope and pray the US Congress will put a stop to that thinking and defund any such two year extension. I read yesterday that the Department of Defense wrote a report and said US troops need to stay at least until 2018! First I heard that and it was frightening to read! Let’s stick with the predetermined deadline which is already an extension by Obama from a previous earlier deadline to leave. The US is out of money, and can no longer afford to fund the Afghan military. Time to take care of American troops, fix the VA, and take care of our military needs.

260 days to go or thereabouts for US troops in Afghanistan.

Another tax day finds US troops still in Afghanistan, but if it’s any comfort, it is their last tax day there as all US troops are set to withdrawal by 31 December 2014. God bless American troops still in Afghanistan and may they complete retrograde operations, closing bases and packing equipment and return home before 31 December 2014 if they have it all packed up.

In the meantime, it seems, fallout from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue, with various books and movies coming out. I had to question one report of Brad Pitt playing Gen. Stan McChrystal in a movie? Is this a joke or a Duffel Blog story? If he was a winning general, one who won the war in Afghanistan that might be one thing, but pursuing a failed COIN (counter-insurgency, nation building) theory which did not lead to victory, not sure I want to see that movie.

2.) Brad Pitt to play Gen. Stan McChrystal in a movie, at least that is what this report says. Surely this is a joke or a Duffel Blog story?

God bless American troops still in Afghanistan completing retrograde operations closing bases and packing equipment so they can be out of that country by the deadline of 31 December 2014.

Yesterday was election day in Afghanistan, for a replacement for Hamid Karzai.

Another month down, and 274 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan. Another 274 days for US taxpayer money to be wasted, so it will be good when that spigot is turned off when all our troops leave 31 December 2014. God bless American troops still in retrograde operations, packing equipment and closing bases and keep them in your prayers. For the first time in a long time, there were no American combat deaths in Afghanistan last month. Remember those veterans of our current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who are suffering, and their families, with TBI, PTSD, and other mental and physical illnesses. Links from around the GWOT:

1.) US taxpayer money wasted in Afghanistan. Where is the US Congress to get to the bottom of this, and possibly cut off the spigot before the 31 December 2014 deadline when US troops leave? Link:

279 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan. It is a still dangerous retrograde mission going on, with US troops still taking casualties, so keep them in your prayers. Links from around the GWOT:
