53 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan, and their victory parade has been put on hold again. Sen. Schemer of NY advocated a victory parade for Afghanistan and Iraq veterans, but due to continued US combat operations in Iraq and Syria, he now says it needs to be put on hold until victory is secured by US troops in combat in Iraq and Syria. Read the details at link #1.

It is the last Veteran’s Day for US troops in Afghanistan. And, in the US, Americans celebrate celebrate Veteran’s Day today. God bless our American veterans.

118 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan, or thereabouts. See the link #1 about all the riches Afghanistan has. Time to bring US troops home, and our money with them. The US can no longer afford to fund the Afghan military, we need to fund our own military and our American veterans.

Remember, a good read for this weekend would be the newly released book about Marines in Afghanistan and the restricted rules of engagement they endured, “LEVEL ZERO HEROES”. I just finished this book and give it my highest recommendation.

Time to have a huge investigation or tribunal after end of this war on 31 December 2014, and hold accountable those politicians and military officers responsible for the losing counterinsurgency theory that led to massive US casualties throughout the 13 or so years of war that we have been in Afghanistan since 2001.

Let’s make sure these officers, and the various losing war plans and strategies are NEVER used in war again! We have already had one Vietnam, why did we use the “Vietnam Plan for Afghanistan?”

In future wars, the US military motto should be: “VICTORY THROUGH STRENGTH.”

260 days to go or thereabouts for US troops in Afghanistan.

Another tax day finds US troops still in Afghanistan, but if it’s any comfort, it is their last tax day there as all US troops are set to withdrawal by 31 December 2014. God bless American troops still in Afghanistan and may they complete retrograde operations, closing bases and packing equipment and return home before 31 December 2014 if they have it all packed up.

In the meantime, it seems, fallout from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue, with various books and movies coming out. I had to question one report of Brad Pitt playing Gen. Stan McChrystal in a movie? Is this a joke or a Duffel Blog story? If he was a winning general, one who won the war in Afghanistan that might be one thing, but pursuing a failed COIN (counter-insurgency, nation building) theory which did not lead to victory, not sure I want to see that movie.

Links from around the GWOT:

1.) A blog I ran across which has several posts and links to Afghanistan war stories, Gen. McChryCOINstal, etc. Link:

2.) Brad Pitt to play Gen. Stan McChrystal in a movie, at least that is what this report says. Surely this is a joke or a Duffel Blog story?

311 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan, as they complete retrograde operations in this still dangerous country. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Links from around the GWOT:

338 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan.

While enlisted troops face most of the combat in Afghanistan and previously Iraq, at least as I understand it, and suffer most of the casualties (deaths and injuries), the story at link # is about military brass behaving badly. Read the story for complete details.  Links from around the GWOT:

Afghanistan is a battlefield and not a playground or ball field. Books should not be delivered until the war is won and it is safe to do so.

Links from around the GWOT:

1.)  State Department official injured in bombing when delivering books to an Afghan school in a war zone. There should be better planning and protection, this is not a good idea in a war zone. There are parachute drops which can deliver the books until the war is won. Whateaver side wins will then deliver books. Link:

I heard Michael Savage, a radio talk show host talking about the 1978 movie, THE DEER HUNTER on his show a week or so ago and decided to rent it. I have not seen it since I saw it for the first and only time years ago, and all I recalled was they played Russian Roulette. Well, I watched the whole long thing a few nights ago, and was thinking about it the last couple of days.

I am not really sure how it related to the war in Iraq or Afghanistan. I really don’t know what to think about it other than it shows the tragedy some of our troops face when they come home from war. You’d have to watch it yourself and maybe post a comment.

Some were saying it had relevance in light of today’s never-ending war in Afghanistan. Or, seemingly never ending war. It does seem that the Iraq War is winding down for Americans with a commander in the last couple of days saying the U.S. should declare victory and pull out. That sounds good to me, but sounds like we should do this in Afghanistan too after their election on Aug. 20, 2009.

I have already written my Representative in Congress and my two Senators to get the ball rolling on having all who are active duty now or honorably discharged and have served in Operation Iraqi Freedom need to have an IRAQ VICTORY MEDAL awarded to them, they earned it. This might also be a morale boost to troops going to Afghanistan or who are fighting toward victory in Afghanistan now and upon victory, should also earn an AFGHANISTAN VICTORY MEDAL.

I suggest anyone who wants the IRAQ VICTORY MEDAL issued to contact President Obama, and their Congressman and Senators. Our troops earned it, now let’s work to get it issued!

Please remember to pray for all our troops and say a special prayer for those injured, and those fighting today in Afghanistan to earn the AFGHANISTAN VICTORY MEDAL. Do not let our troops DIE FOR DEFEAT!

Various stories from around the Global War on Terror, the GWOT: If the link doesn’t work cut and past into your browser.

1.) American Army colonel says the US should declare victory and leave Iraq. I have been writing my reps and asking for them to make sure our troops who served honorably or are still active duty receive an IRAQ VICTORY MEDAL-they earned it. Link:
