229 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan.

As the days wind down, it seems more and more is coming out about the various scandals in Afghanistan.

Just in the last few days, the Inspector General report came out on the lost Medal of Honor recommendation paperwork for Capt. Will Swenson. Apparently Gen. Petraeus can’t remember what happened. Read the story at link #1.

260 days to go or thereabouts for US troops in Afghanistan.

Another tax day finds US troops still in Afghanistan, but if it’s any comfort, it is their last tax day there as all US troops are set to withdrawal by 31 December 2014. God bless American troops still in Afghanistan and may they complete retrograde operations, closing bases and packing equipment and return home before 31 December 2014 if they have it all packed up.

In the meantime, it seems, fallout from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue, with various books and movies coming out. I had to question one report of Brad Pitt playing Gen. Stan McChrystal in a movie? Is this a joke or a Duffel Blog story? If he was a winning general, one who won the war in Afghanistan that might be one thing, but pursuing a failed COIN (counter-insurgency, nation building) theory which did not lead to victory, not sure I want to see that movie.

2.) Brad Pitt to play Gen. Stan McChrystal in a movie, at least that is what this report says. Surely this is a joke or a Duffel Blog story?

312 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan, as they spend another Washington’s Birthday at war. It is a still dangerous country for US troops as they complete retrograde operations, packing up equipment and closing down US bases, so keep them in your prayers.

Links from around the GWOT:

1.) General Allen, now retired, spout off on war planning. Something about this is not right to me. I believe these retired generals, McChrystal (who was on CBS the other day hawking a book), Petraeus, and Admiral Mullen, who presided over a failed Afghanistan and Iraq war plan, focusing on COIN (nation building) should spend the rest of their lives tending to the wounded troops, the amputees, and those with other injuries who suffered these casualties under their military plans. These same generals and admirals, now retired, should also spend their days in Ganjgal, Afghanistan, Bati Kot, Afghanistan, Sangin, Afghanistan, and other hot spots talking to the elders, with a contingent of guards, if they want to continue their COIN plans. Another Christmas Eve at war for US troops in Afghanistan as they continue retrograde operations to pack up equipment and close bases so the US can leave by 31 December 2014. Links from around the GWOT:

1.) Why did the Army refuse to aid Marines at Ganjgal on 8 Sept. 2009, resulting in the deaths of 3 US Marines and an Navy Corpsman? There needs to be a Marine Court of Inquiry and referral to Court Martial. A full investigation, including a  Congressional Investigation needs to be held. Link:

Pray for American troops in Afghanistan as the US State Department is in talks with the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to leave US troops there past the 31 Dec. 2014 deadline for US troops to leave. I am praying that the US does not leave US troops there, or spend money there that is needed here at home. Links from around the GWOT:

1.) When there is talk of an apology to Afghanistan, please remember the Ganjgal Ambush where Marines were left to die. Where is the apology from Afghanistan for US casualties? Link:

Today the Medal of Honor will be awarded to former Army Captain Will Swenson at the White House for heroic actions in an ambush in Ganjgal Afghanistan on 8 September 2009.

While the US is in retrograde operations in Afghanistan, preparing for the 31 December 2014 departure, many US troops are being injured and dying.  See link #1 for a heroic Army Ranger giving a salute from his hospital bed while his commander awards him the Purple Heart. He was injured the weekend before last in an ambush which killed four American soldiers including a female Army nurse, and injured 30 Rangers total.
