16 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan, and the loss of humanity in the world is evident today with an attack by the Taliban on Muslim school children in Pakistan, with reports of over 145 deaths so far, and more wounded. It’s so “yesterday’s news” the Muslim hostage taker in Australia, and the terror there, with this latest attack. In the meantime, Australia is sending back refugees of a religious minority to Afghanistan where it has been determined it is safe. Links from around the GWOT:

34 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan if I have my count right.

Attacks are ongoing in Afghanistan: see link #1 for details.

1.) This story states US troops are leaving 12/31/14, I guess they haven’t gotten the memo that President Obama, while focus was on the Ferguson riots, signed an order to extend the mission of US troops there. We will see if Congress funds the extension. This story also explains the attacks in Afghanistan lately, and the murders of a South African family. Link:

Election day in the USA and 60 days left for US troops in Afghanistan. I might be a few days off on the count. As it gets closer to the December 31, 2014 deadline for US troops to leave Afghanistan, I will adjust as needed. Meanwhile, fallout from the war in Afghanistan continues, this time in a US courtroom, as a terrorist is being brought to trial in the USA for attacks on US troops in Afghanistan. 118 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan, or thereabouts. See the link #1 about all the riches Afghanistan has. Time to bring US troops home, and our money with them. The US can no longer afford to fund the Afghan military, we need to fund our own military and our American veterans.

Remember, a good read for this weekend would be the newly released book about Marines in Afghanistan and the restricted rules of engagement they endured, “LEVEL ZERO HEROES”. I just finished this book and give it my highest recommendation.

Time to have a huge investigation or tribunal after end of this war on 31 December 2014, and hold accountable those politicians and military officers responsible for the losing counterinsurgency theory that led to massive US casualties throughout the 13 or so years of war that we have been in Afghanistan since 2001.

Let’s make sure these officers, and the various losing war plans and strategies are NEVER used in war again! We have already had one Vietnam, why did we use the “Vietnam Plan for Afghanistan?”

In future wars, the US military motto should be: “VICTORY THROUGH STRENGTH.”

128 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan, as they engage in retrograde operations, closing bases and packing equipment so all US troops can leave by the long agreed on date of 31 December 2014.

This story at link #1 describes the duties of US troops engaging in retrograde operations.

With 131 days to go for US troops in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and until the stoppage or slowdown in daily posts on this blog, and with all the global terror going on outside of Afghanistan, I decided to make a somewhat subtle, but I think necessary, change to the title of this blog. The change appears beginning with today’s title, and unless I forget and accidentally post it as I did in the past out of habit, the change will be to “A GWOT Hotspot” from “The GWOT Hotspot”. Right now, it even seems the switch is back on to Iraq, with Commander-in-Chief, President Obama, sending troops there on the ground, and also by air with air strikes. Some days 31 December 2014 seems a long way off, but it can’t come soon enough for US troops in this still dangerous country, who face death and injury while completing retrograde operations, closing bases and packing up US equipment.

134 days left for US troops in Afghanistan, as they complete retrograde operations in preparation for all US troops to leave that country by 31 December 2014.

Remember our injured troops, and families of the fallen in your prayers.

Remember in your prayers, the family of Sgt. Rob Richards, Marine Sniper, Purple Heart recipient, who was found dead in his home in North Carolina a week ago tomorrow.
