132 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan as they work to complete retrograde operations before they all leave 31 December 2014.

There were stories in the news the last few days, while President Obama is on vacation, which states he supports the current date of withdrawal for US troops from Afghanistan. The 31 December 2014 date is an extension of a previous date for US troops to leave, but President Obama, as Commander-in-Chief, agreed to extend until the end of this year.

Now there is talk of President Obama wanting to extend the date once again, from 31 December 2014, until the end of 2016! The U.S. Congress needs to step in and put an end to this two year extension by defunding it!

God bless our troops as they complete retrograde operations, closing bases, and packing equipment, in this still dangerous country, as evidenced by the murder of a US general there in an insider attack earlier this month.

In the meantime, it seems the GWOT Hotspot has speed from Afghanistan to places around the world with Iraq back in play with US troops being sent back there, with the beheading of a US journalist by ISIS, continuing terrorist presence in Syria, and elsewhere around the world.

Meanwhile, some officers such as Army Major General John Nicholson, Jr. is back in the U.S. with a new wife, as the story at link #1 describes his digs.

Another week at war in progress for US troops in Afghanistan. For past action, medals and awards are being presented, one of the latest, a Silver Star to a Recon Marine for action in Sangin, Afghanistan on 6 June 2011. One day, the full story of this ambush should come out, and the entire action should be investigated. The bravery and courage of this Marine were outstanding. Links from around the GWOT:

As U.S. troops in Afghanistan toil under restricted rules of engagement and COIN (nation building) theories put in place by former Gen. David Petraeus, he who had an adulterous affair and resigned as Director of the CIA, hires a high-powered, high-priced attorney. God bless US troops, and may they soon get new war strategy as the COIN theory is as discredited as David Petraeus now. May they get new war strategy and secure war victory and come home before 2014. Links from around the GWOT:

1.) David Petraeus secures a high-powered, high price attorney with FBI, CIA, and possible Department of Defense  Investigations pending, financial audits of his time at CIA, and possibly for his year in Afghanistan with his mistress, who was a Major in the US Army Reserve, and promoted to Lt. Col. He tells friends who reported on TV, that he did not have sex with her until he was retired from the military and sworn in as Director of the CIA. If that’s true, and who knows, as he already cheated while married, then at the very least is is fraternization with an officer of a lower rank. But, they can check his financial records in audits during the time he was in Afghanistan with her, and during the time at the CIA that he admits to the affair with Paula Broadwell. He failed the marital fidelity audit, but a financial audit is still pending for his time as head of the CIA, and I believe his year in Afghanistan with Broadwell should also be financially audited.
