I had not heard of (that I know of), Helgal Valley, Afghanistan in Kunar Province. (Sometimes referred to as Konar Province) until yesterday. I read a story about a young soldier who was killed in Washington State in a “suicide by police” type incident. He had been denied disability it was reported, for actions which earned him the Purple Heart in Helgal Valley. So, I searched Helgal Valley and found several stories. Some called it, “Horrible Helgal Valley”. There was an incident in 2011 when this soldier who was shot by police, was injured in combat. Links from around the GWOT:
