195 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan. Let’s hope and pray the US Congress steps up and does not give in to the desire of President Obama to stay two more years until 2016! Staying until 12/31/14 is long enough!

1.) I did not see the hearing yesterday, but this story states that a soldier who served with Bowe Bergdahl said Bergdahl did not support the COIN theory (nation building, tea drinking missions) which was so popular with successive US generals leading the mission: McKiernan, McChrystal, and Petraeus, among others. This soldier states that Bergdahl wanted to fight and kill the Taliban. That sounds like a good plan if you ask me: stop the nation building, defeat the enemy, win the war and leave Afghanistan! 260 days to go or thereabouts for US troops in Afghanistan.

Another tax day finds US troops still in Afghanistan, but if it’s any comfort, it is their last tax day there as all US troops are set to withdrawal by 31 December 2014. God bless American troops still in Afghanistan and may they complete retrograde operations, closing bases and packing equipment and return home before 31 December 2014 if they have it all packed up.

In the meantime, it seems, fallout from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue, with various books and movies coming out. I had to question one report of Brad Pitt playing Gen. Stan McChrystal in a movie? Is this a joke or a Duffel Blog story? If he was a winning general, one who won the war in Afghanistan that might be one thing, but pursuing a failed COIN (counter-insurgency, nation building) theory which did not lead to victory, not sure I want to see that movie.

2.) Brad Pitt to play Gen. Stan McChrystal in a movie, at least that is what this report says. Surely this is a joke or a Duffel Blog story?

312 days to go for US troops in Afghanistan, as they spend another Washington’s Birthday at war. It is a still dangerous country for US troops as they complete retrograde operations, packing up equipment and closing down US bases, so keep them in your prayers.

1.) General Allen, now retired, spout off on war planning. Something about this is not right to me. I believe these retired generals, McChrystal (who was on CBS the other day hawking a book), Petraeus, and Admiral Mullen, who presided over a failed Afghanistan and Iraq war plan, focusing on COIN (nation building) should spend the rest of their lives tending to the wounded troops, the amputees, and those with other injuries who suffered these casualties under their military plans. These same generals and admirals, now retired, should also spend their days in Ganjgal, Afghanistan, Bati Kot, Afghanistan, Sangin, Afghanistan, and other hot spots talking to the elders, with a contingent of guards, if they want to continue their COIN plans.
