Afghanistan Today, the GWOT Hotspot (The Afghanistan Scandal?) 12-17-13-Tue.

Time flies it seems, and here we are fast approaching the next to last Christmas at war for US troops in Afghanistan. As they complete retrograde missions now, packing up US equipment and closing bases, they are still in a danger zone earning combat pay. Christmas 2013 will soon be here for these US troops, then next year Christmas 2014, and all US troops are scheduled to leave Afghanistan  by 31 December 2014. Keep US troops in your hearts and prayers as they complete these dangerous retrograde missions. It is my prayer and hope that they will be able to complete the packing and closing of bases and be able to leave long before 31 December 2014. That would be a great early Christmas present for 2014 if they could get the packing done and be out of there long before 31 December 2014 rolls around.

Links from around the GWOT:

1.) What will Afghanistan be like when NATO forces leave?

2.) Australia withdraws last combat troops from Afghanistan, they are a bit ahead of the US:

3.) While in retrograde operations, American troops who remain are in a dangerous situations in Afghanistan. This report says a plane went down and killed six Americans. Subsequent reports say a helicopter went down. RIP to these troops, and prayers for their families:

4.) US credibility hurt world wide by Afghanistan war this story says. I would say the FAILED COIN theory (counter insurgency: nation building), bad US leadership both political and militarily doomed the US to failure in Afghanistan, but the US enlisted man (and woman) performed to the best of their ability with restricted rules of engagement, generals who were giving apologies right and left, and politicians who did not carry out their role to make sure wars we enter are won in quick and decisive manner and do not become long, drawn out contractor parties based on a failed military theory of COIN. 5.) Taliban and the Afghan Army patrol Santin, Afghanistan:
