Afghanistan Today, the GWOT Hotspot (The Afghanistan Scandal?) 6-24-12

Another peaceful day in America. Americans can attend the church of their choice, sing, read the Bible, and meet with fellow Christians.

Around the world in Afghanistan, which the U.S. military press releases officially call the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, which pretty much sets the tone for religious freedom, enlisted U.S. troops face peril with seemingly every step.

Pray for our enlisted troops on the ground  during this hot fighting season, with temperatures over 100 degrees most every day, and restricted rules of engagement and nation-building (COIN) endangering U.S troops even more. God bless America and God bless our troops as they toil in what many enlisted troops call, “The worst place in the world.” Links from around the GWOT:

1) Another excellent post by syndicated writer Diana West. This story is about the attack on the lakeside hotel and restaurant in Afghanistan a few days ago. It just seems so awful, to those just there at the lake for a picnic with their families, or just there for a meal or a cool Coca Cola, can’t even have that in peace without an attack. Link:

2.) “Bloody Terror in Afghanistan” (Warning: Graphic Images) – I saw these photos first a few days ago This is the first news report, which consisted of 32 photos with captions that I saw about this attack. Of all the sorrow I feel for U.S. troops missing their legs, being maimed in other ways, killed, and facing other injuries, with this report I just felt a total sense of failure of the U.S. COIN (counterinsurgency) policy.

Repeatedly I hear the U.S. military brass say, instead of killing enemy troops, they are having the U.S. fighting men “push” them out of town or villages. I have long thought, “What good does that do?” Or, “Where are they pushing them to?” Well, it seems the enemy is pushing back, just “pushing” them out of a village or area hasn’t worked.
